If you currently study in South Korea and you plan to find a job after graduation, you are lucky to discover this article. The majority of students coming to South Korea for their education, even after graduating from top universities fail to find a job and consequently, have to leave the country. However, if you do not waste your time while studying and accomplish certain necessary steps, finding a job for you, specifically a job related to your major, in Korea after graduation will become much more straightforward. Without long introduction, let’s move on to these steps.

1. Get a TOPIK certificate.

First of all, albeit very banal, it is an absolute necessity, but many people miss it. Korean language and TOPIK certificate play an important role in getting a job for a foreigner. Companies are reluctant to hire foreigners when they have the opportunity to employ Korean people with whom they can communicate easily. Therefore, to be a rival to a Korean, your language skills should be existing. It is desirable to have a high level of TOPIK such as 5 or 6 to demonstrate your advanced language skills, however, level 3 or 4 are still better than nothing, thus, make your best to get a good TOPIK certificate. Besides Korean companies, there are international companies or Korean organizations that look for foreign employees, in particular. You have opportunities to find a job in such companies, however, there are no many of them, and chances to be hired are not very high unless you excel in other skills and fit all the requirements. In any case, it is best to secure yourself with a TOPIK certificate.

2. Enhance Leadership skills.

Leadership skills posit a considerable significance among Korean employers. This skill is something that is needed in any area of work and is something that employers look for in candidates. To show your leadership skills you can take online or offline courses and get certified. Certainly, it is better to get certified from offline lectures provided in Korea such as Sunnong Culture Forum Leadership Academy Program which is held twice a year (September, March) in Myeongdong, and last for 13 weeks. Nevertheless, if it is difficult to attend, at least, try to take online courses.

3. Keep GPA over the threshold.

If you apply for jobs related to your major, it is obvious that employers will pay attention to your GPA. GPA (Grade Point Average) is an index of your knowledge in a particular field. As a student, you should study and succeed in your exams to get grades of A, A+ to keep your GPA high. It is suggested that you GPA is above 4.0 of maximum 4.5. 4. Courses make sense.

Often times, with the purpose of keeping GPA high, some students try to take easy courses in their university. However, note that avoiding difficult classes can reduce the quality of your transcript. Some employers will look at what courses you have taken to evaluate how qualified you are for the applied position. While choosing only challenging courses can be too stressful, which can negatively affect your grades, it is recommended that you combine difficult with easy each semester.

5. Internship.

You probably know the main reason why most foreigners fail to find a job in Korea. It is nothing else but the lack of work experience. Foreign students often are not allowed to work while studying, therefore, after graduation they do not have experience. However, they are allowed to do internships while studying. Internships are extremely important for being able to get a job later. Usually, you can find internship opportunities in Career Development Centers within your university. However, you could also find outside your university.

In job fairs you can find about different companies, give your resume to the ones you would like to work with and just see the opportunities in the Korean job market. Moreover, it is a great place to get an interview experience, even if you do not plan to start working yet or even if you do not get hired, interview experience is still essential and valuable.

8. Additional Certifications.

To enhance your background and raise chances of being employed, additional certification related to the job you want to apply for are necessary. Unfortunately, getting a university degree is not enough. Hence, you better improve your background by taking additional courses and earning new certifications.
