Basic information 

When overseas Koreans are employed in Korea, they are largely divided into H-2 (visiting employment) and F-4 (overseas) visa holders

 

Unlike H-2 (visit employment visa), which can only be re-entered one year after the end of the stay period, it is possible to stay permanently through renewal every 3 years

Those who continue to stay in Korea for more than 2 years as overseas Koreans (F-4) can be granted F-5 (permanent qualification) by meeting the requirement

Those who continue to stay in Korea for more than 2 years as Marriage visa (F-6)

*F-5: Employment activities are generally free, except for some areas such as simple labor

- Spouses and underage children with F4 visas can be eligible for F-1 (visit living together)


Granted qualification


-Qualified international student (D-2)
-Degree holders with a degree of domestic and international professional studies or higher
-A person with a certificate of technical skill or higher
-compatriots over 60 years of age
-Those who have worked in the same workplace for more than 2 years, such as local manufacturing
-A person who has served for more than two years without any change in employer after completing early childhood
helper training
-Holder of permanent residence in OECD countries
-A person who has stayed in Korea for more than 6 months in the qualifications of D-1, D-5, D-9, and E-7
-Individual investors and companies with certain requirements
-Registered executives and management employees of corporate representatives
-Qualified overseas Koreans in the past
-University professor, middle and high school teacher, elementary school teacher
-Authorized representatives and deputy representatives of Korean American organizations or cultural and artistic
organizations
-Media executives, lawyers, journalists, doctors, accountants, university professors, advanced technicians, artists
-Former incumbent member of the National Assembly, civil servants who have served for more than 5 years, and
employees of state-owned enterprises
-A person who holds a Korean nationality and has acquired a foreign nationality

-A person who has acquired foreign nationality as one of the parents' general or grandparents held nationality

Needed documents

- Application for grant of residence status within 90 days from the date of birth


-F-5 visa application (Form No. 34, mark on ‘permanent residency’)

-Passport

-Standard photo

-Issuance fee

-Family relationship verification document

-Basic certificate

-Certificate of marriage

-Certificate of family relations

-(If have child) child’s family certificate

-Documents certifying the status of a nationality

-Proof of the amount of income of family members who share a living with one



Documents Details

A person who holds the nationality of the Republic of Korea and has acquired foreign nationality

1) Basic Certificate of Person (or Archived Family Relation Register)

* If you do not report the loss of nationality, you can apply with a receipt after receiving the loss of nationality

2) Original and copy of Korean citizenship certificate (original will be returned after collation)

 * In the case of men, additional documents may be requested to prove that

they are not subject to visa issuance restrictions in relation to military service performance

A person who has acquired foreign nationality as one of his/her parents or grandparents held the nationality of the

Republic of Korea

1) Basic certificate of direct ascendant (or Archived Family Relation Register)

*If you do not report the loss of nationality, you can apply with a receipt after receiving the loss of nationality

2) Documents proving that they are direct ascendant and descendant (certificate of birth, etc.)



Documents Details- Korean proficiency

Korean Language Proficiency Certification Document (any of the following documents)

  ① Scorecard of preliminary evaluation results of KIIP (21 points or more)

  ② KIIP completion certificate (more than one level completion certificate

  ③ Korean Language Proficiency Test (TOPIK) Level 1 or higher

  ④ Certificate of completion of beginner 1B course or higher at King Sejong Institute

Exemption case of Korean proficiency verification

  ① A person who held Korean nationality in the past

  ② those over 60 years of age

  ③ Persons under the age of 13 (criminal minors)

  ④ A person who has stayed in Korea for more than 3 years with a visa for overseas Koreans (F-4), etc.


 ※ Subject to submission of Korean proficiency verification documents

1)In case of submission: issuance of multiple visas for 2 years of stay (enter 'submission of documents

proving Korean proficiency' in the visa column)

2)  Failure to submit: Multiple visa issuance within 1 year of stay

Submission of overseas criminal background certificate (foreign nationals aged 14 or older)

(Criminal career certification document requirements) Public documents issued by authorized agencies in the relevant

country within 3 months include all criminal  background in and outside the country

 

※ Even those who have previously held an F-4 visa and have been issued a residence certificate, those who have

stayed abroad for more than 6 months must submit a notarized FBI criminal background certificate when applying for

renewal of residence certificate and reissue of an F-4 visa
