Like most of foreigners in Korea who want to work in Korea as full-time, E-7 visa is the best for allowing foreigners work as full-time in Korea, as long as contract been made and work in any type of job field.  Visa regulation and its law is frequently changing so have newest information is getting more important. 

Let's take a look at it and get the latest information 


E-7 Introduction 

It is a visa obtained by domestic companies that want to hire professional foreigners as a specific activity visa or by foreign talents who want to work in Korea to work as regular workers.


[Duration of stay] 3 years.

* Five years for excellent human resources recommended by the competent ministry, special regional special development zones, and researchers at medical research and development institutions in E-7 occupations in high-tech medical complexes.


[Requirements for new issuance]

- Has a master's degree or higher in a field related to the introduction job.

- Has a bachelor's degree related to the introduction job + 1 year or more of experience in the field

- At least 5 years of work experience associated with the introduction job


Special cases

[Special requirements]

- Top 500 companies in the world with more than one year of professional experience

- Bachelor of Arts degree holder who graduated (scheduled) from a world-class university

- Graduates (scheduled) from domestic vocational colleges

- Graduated from a domestic university (scheduled) with a bachelor's degree or higher

- Outstanding talent in high-tech science and technology recommended by the competent ministry


* High-tech intern (D-10-3) visa

- If a person who has been an intern for more than one year at a domestic company as a high-tech intern D-10-3 is officially employed in the internship field and his/her wage is more than one times the gross national income (GNI) per person in the previous year, he/she is exempted from academic/career requirements.


E-7 visa foreign insurances

[Required insurance items]

① the national pension

Mandatory subscription by default

Exclusion from membership in cases falling under the following nationality or status of residence:


1) An excluded country 

- Georgia, South Africa, Nepal, East Timor, Maldives, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Belarus, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Swaziland, Armenia, Ethiopia, Iran, Egypt, Cambodia, Tonga, Pakistan, Fiji


2)  Qualification of stay: Culture and Arts (D-1), Industrial Training (D-3), General Training (D-4), Religion (D-6), Visiting Companion (F-1), Companion (F-3), Others (G-1).

** Membership-based foreign countries, etc. can be changed according to government agreements


Health insurance - mandatory subscription regardless of nationality or qualifications

Employment insurance - voluntary subscription (if the subscriber wishes, fill out a separate application form and apply for subscription)

Industrial accident insurance - mandatory subscription regardless of nationality or qualification 


[Requirements for company]

- Companies with less than 5 national employees and domestic demand are limited in principle, and employees are registered in the employment insurance subscriber list of the Ministry of Employment and Labor for at least 3 months. *You must submit an employment insurance subscriber list for more than 3 months.


-Limitation of invitation if foreigners' jobs are simple labor/foreigners' basic salary is below the minimum wage standard for the current year (required at least 70% GNI per citizen)


- (Industry of an employer) If a separate employer requirement is determined in consideration of the characteristics of the industry, the requirement must be met.


-(Foreigner Employment Ratio) In principle, jobs that protect national employment allow foreign employment within 20% of national employment (one foreign employment per five domestic employees)


[Wages requirements]

- Professional manpower: 80% or more of the GNI per person in the previous year

- Quasi-specialized personnel, general skilled personnel, and skilled workers: Application of minimum wage or higher

- There are separate standards for some occupations

*(Exceptions for small/venture/non-metropolitan mid-sized enterprises) Employment Foreigners who are expected to work at least 80% of the previous year's GNI and who have no experience working in domestic companies or less than 3 years


New E-7-S visa

* a negative professional visa


1. Subject to application

- (High-income earners) A person whose income is more than three times the gross national income (GNI) per capita in the previous year.

- (Employees in high-tech industries) A person who is notified in accordance with Article 5 of the Industrial Development Act (scheduled)


2. Detailed criteria for each type

- High income earners (E-7-S1): Visa issued regardless of academic background, experience, or field

- Qualification requirements, visa issuance and residence management standards

ⓐ Income is more than three times the gross national income (GNI) per capita in the previous year.

Ⓑ Do not get a job in a restricted position.


3. Workers in high-tech industries (E-7-S2): Issuing visas regardless of occupation 

Qualification requirements, visa issuance and residence management standards)

Ⓐ Score requirement 60 points or higher

Ⓑ Income more than one-fold of per capita GNI in the previous year 

Ⓒ Working in high-tech industries

Ⓓ Limited employment is not available only in semiconductors, bio, displays, and renewable energy sectors


Qualification and special cases

[Qualification Specials]


1. Score system residence F-2-7 

(Target) A person who has stayed in Korea for at least one year in E-7-S qualification and is normally engaged in employment activities.


(Requirements) E E-7-S2 score system requirements (60 points or higher) are met (E-7-S1 only checks income)

② Completion or assignment of three or more stages of social integration programs.


(Content) Exemption from the requirement for the residential scoring system.


2. Score system permanent residence F-5-16 

(Target) A person who has changed from E-7-S qualification to a score system residence (F-2-7) and has stayed in Korea for more than three years and is currently employed

(Requirements) All income requirements (GNI 3 times or more) must be met


② E-7-S2 score system requirements (60 points or higher) are met

(Content) E-7-S2 applies relaxed living conditions to those who have changed their (F-2-7) qualifications


Extension of E-7 visa

[Submission documents]

① Application form (attached Form 34), passport and alien registration card, fee

② an employment contract

③ Proof of personal income (required)

④ Income amount certification source (issued by tax office) or earned income withholding receipt (issued by affiliated company)

⑤ A copy of the business registration certificate or a copy of the corporate register.

⑥ Original identity guarantee (required only for the following occupations)

Mechanical engineering engineer (2351), drafter (2395), overseas online product salesperson (2742), designer (285), sales clerk (31215), chef and cook (441), customer service clerk (3991), hotel reception clerk (3922), aquaculture engineer (6301), shipbuilding welding (74), skilled S610), skilled workers (agriculture industry)

⑦ Documents proving the place of stay (rental contract, confirmation of accommodation, notice of expiration of the period of stay, receipt of payment of public utility bills, receipt of dormitory fees, etc.)

⑧ Proof of employer payment details, tax payment certificate, local tax payment certificate (check normal business and tax arrears)

* Applications can be made one month before the expiration date of the visa

*Reservation for visit is required (If not, application is not accepted)

*If it is not extended within the period, a fine will be imposed
