Foreign student’s work visa change - from D2 visas to E7 visas

Cosmos graduation season has came up! 

cosmos graduation, which is graduating on August, alike Korean, foreign students have a lot of worries about getting a job before graduation. In fact, they check requirements of work visa and prepare it beforehand in order to get ready for their future plan.
Foreign students will have their staying period, based on student visa D2, considering their academic schedule. When foreigner enter the country with the qualification of foreign student, and try to do alien registration, they would have their visa’s expired date from end of March to end of September, considering their graduation period. Normally, they be given D2 visa's period a year and it lasts maximum 2 years, but they can be given staying period from a year to 2 years, regarding their regular course schedule.
When you giving up the study for personal matter during semester, visa’s period extension is not possible, but you can have visa again if you return to school. so the any cases such as leave of absence, credit shortfall, drop-out, disciplinary action are restricted to extend D2 visa’s staying period. if you failed to achieve graduation requirement, you can extend your period with the document of exchange student’s extension certificate which proves that you performing your study well.


[special benefit of foreign student]
If foreigner wants to have a job after graduating in Korea, one should fulfill the requirement of visa which you want to change. But one who is community college graduate, can have special benefit for the purpose of keeping excellent personnel, which makes you get better visa requirement than normal requirement of work visa to receive you the visa easily.

1. graduate or graduate-to-be in local college
If one who is the local college graduate deserve to exemption of a year’s career experience, but should have a job only in major-related work, based on their degree certificate. One who is working in major-related job, can change field of work, after confirming necessity of foreign employment in one’s existing field of work.

2. graduate or graduate-to-be in local university
One who has local university degree, would be exempted all the conditions that requirement of a year’s career experience and requirement of getting major-related job. so, if one gets confirmation of necessity of foreign employment, can change visa with work payment.


[application of staying-qualification change]
if you want to change D2 visa to E7 visa you have to be foreign student who is ready for working in permitted fields of work. if foreigner staying in local country, can apply staying-qualification change directly. but also have examination standard and qualification requirement of E7 visa’s certificate of visa issuance at the same time.
In the process of applying foreign work visa, when the relevant year’s basic pay was in standard of minimum wage, visa issuance might be prohibited for the reason of preventing low-payment manpower utilization, so the basic pay-based working hour must be presented in employment contract.
If foreign student who has D2 visa want to change to E7 visa, should stay in local country legitimately. Then change the visa to E7 visa after graduation, or changing D2 visa to E7 visa as local university graduate-to-be.
Both cases are needed to write employment contract with the firm you going to work. Because it’s not the oral test for getting a job, so some of documents are needed such as foreign-based standard employment contract, or firm-exclusive employment contract, work contract, basic employment contract, annual contract, etc. Any of these is fine, but documents should contain detailed categories which has confirmed that based pay-working hour, workplace, range of tasks that employee must write. A series of documents one should submit are application form, passport, a passport photo, employment contract, enterprise establishment-related document, graduate degree, career certificate, employment recommendation letter, etc. And you better to have additional document which proves necessity of foreign employment you would work in.
